TO THOSE MAKING NATIVE OCS

I see this a lot, no one has actual names, or any reference for names, that are legit Native American, varying among the tribes, for their characters.

Babynames.com and shit like that will give you names made up by white people.

However, I’ve got your solution.

Native-Languages  is a good website to turn to for knowledge on a lot of native things, including native names. If you’re unsure about the names you’ve picked, they even have a list of made up names here!

Please don’t trust names like babynames.com for native names, they’re made up and often quite offensive to the cultures themselves.

Thank you!

Btw I’m terrified and we are all gonna die and if I hear one more person say “our species destroyed the environment” I’m gonna lose it harder than I already am which is, for the record, Very Hard Indeed

Our SPECIES didn’t destroy the environment it was like 3 guys

Like it was more than 3 guys but in the grand scheme of things when you step back and really look at it it was like 0.00000000000000000001% of humans and that’s actually a much larger number than reality in reality it was like one 1000th of a guy. But like. For the purposes of envisioning every human alive today vs. people responsible for this. It was like 3 guys.

Saying humans destroyed the environment is only very slightly more accurate than saying mammals destroyed the environment

The “our species destroyed the environment” club is the same club that only ever talks about this as something that is tragic because of all the beauty destroyed, all the cute animals that go extinct, etc.

Never mind the billions of humans whose lives it endangers.

They don’t register on their notion of how tragic the destroyed environment is because they ‘deserve it’ for ‘destroying the environment’.

The concept of collective guilt serves to

  • get the guilty of the hook
  • justify not putting any effort in saving people from the deadly consequences of climate change

This is EXACTLY the point made in this article on why we shouldn’t call the new era the Anthropocene (climate caused by man) but instead the Capitalocene (climate caused by drive for wealth/capital)

I’m going to read more into this

It’s 2017 people need to stop appropriating the term spirit animal. If you aren’t an Indigenous person who is part of a culture and community that uses this term in their practices you don’t need to be using it. The issue with its continued use is a that the cultural appropriation of Indigenous culture that seeks to commoditfy and erase the realities of Indigenous people. If you out here using the term educate yourself and stop using it.

Why You Should Actually Be Terrified Right Now

raedusoleil:

It’s what happened to Jews in Germany in 1938 when their passports were declared invalid. That is what is beginning to happen here, now, to Hispanic citizens along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Oh, is it bad to compare the GOP to Nazis? Well, if members of the GOP do not like being compared to Nazis, they should consider not behaving exactly like Nazis.

Hispanic U.S. citizens, some of whom were in the U.S. military, are not being allowed to renew their passports. This is reportedly happening to “hundreds, even thousands” of Latinos, according to a report in the Washington Post. They’re getting letters from the State Department saying it does not believe they are citizens. The government claims their citizenships are fraudulent. “I’ve had probably 20 people who have been sent to the detention center—U.S. citizens,” Jaime Diez, an attorney in Brownsville, told The Washington Post.

The Washington Post also reports on ICE officials coming to citizens’ homes and taking their passports away. This is an escalation from a few months ago, when Americans were detained by ICE officials just for speaking Spanish to one another.

The administration is currently launching an effort to take citizenship from people who they suspect of fraud in obtaining it. Fraud in these cases is exceedingly rare. The last time the government tried to strip people of their citizenship was, according to Columbia Professor Mae Ngai, during The Red Scare of the 1950s. As Ngai remarks, McCarthyism is not typically remembered as a good period in American history.

There is good reason to believe that this could portend still worse things to come for the U.S. Hispanic population, unless people begin to speak out loudly, and fast.

this is such a fucking power move

“Then they wouldn’t hire people on government assistance” no no no the reason those people are ON government assistance is because their employer doesnt pay them enough. Wal-Mart employees are on food stamps because of how they’re treated (worked 70+ hours one week and 0 the next, followed by a single 8 hour shift the next week).

These corporations get away with this shit because the government helps keep these people alive, while the companies abuse them to the point they are desperate and that’s their only option.

Making the companies pay taxes that get gobbled up because they break the social contract is a brilliant move. They NEED those people so either they pay their employees more and give them benefits or they have to pay taxes that will help those people.
